Santa Ana - Accommodations
For all accommodations, the school encourages a Sunday arrival before your classes begin and a Saturday departure at the end. With all accommodation options, lunch is included and served on campus during the weekdays. Weekend lunches may be taken with your host family if you desire.
You have the following accommodation options:
Costa Rican Host Family
Living with a carefully selected Costa Rican host family is highly recommended as the most effective way to practice your Spanish. There is only one student or couple placed per family. Your private bedroom homestay includes two meals daily of breakfast and dinner, and laundry service is also included. While with your host family, you will find they are the most valuable window into Costa Rican culture. You will find ample opportunity to practice your Spanish. For students in host families, the school will provide daily transportation to and from the school campus as a complimentary service. Special diets such as vegetarian can be accommodated.
Onsite Lodges
Most of Conversa's students elect to stay with a Costa Rican host family. However, many of the students prefer a more tranquil, relaxed atmosphere with a bit more privacy. Conversa has two on-campus lodges that provide these features, while still allowing the student ample contact with the Spanish language and Costa Rican culture.
Two lodges are available:
La Casona:
This lodge was designed by architect Luis Bernardo Ortiz. It boasts a magnificent view of the Santa Ana Valley, brick and hardwood floors, lots of stonework, and beamed ceilings. The building is flanked by a large brick terrace. The downstairs is filled by a large living room and dining room, an office with internet access, a breakfast nook, kitchen, and laundry room. The second floor has six double bedrooms, each with a private bathroom. There is also a large common room and extensive balcony. A third floor has a room for reading, relaxing, and doing homework.
La Casita:
Often entire families come to Conversa to learn Spanish. While Conversa does have hosts with the capability of handling families, La Casita is an alternative. It looks like an old adobe house, the kind one used to find on coffee plantations here on the Meseta Central. The building can accommodate two families. There are two-room suites, each with an adjoining bath. There is a large front terrace and a charming side patio as well as a shared living room and kitchen. Adjoining La Casita are swings, ping pong tables, a TV lounge, and a pool.
