San Sebastian

LACUNZA of San Sebastian, Spain

Lacunza (part of the International House organization) is a Spanish school that in 11 years has become the most prominent school in the north of Spain and the only one that has obtained the CEELE quality certificate.

The school premises are in the center of San Sebastián, and have been designed to make it easy to learn Spanish in a very pleasant atmosphere. There is a terrace, common area with a library and multimedia computers, air conditioning, high fidelity sound, video, and many other learning tools available. Lacunza is a medium sized school with 40 to 60 students in winter, autumn and spring and from May to September from 100 to 160 students.

Through its affiliation with International House it has all the resources for the latest advances in methodology, teacher training, and materials for different types of students.

  • The school is committed to providing opportunities for language study in a teaching/learningenvironment of high quality and within a clearly organised curriculum framework.
  • The school accepts a responsibility to take all reasonable steps to ensure the welfare and safety of their students while they are on school premises. In addition, the school agrees to work towards making provision for students with disabilities.
  • The school has and makes known to students a clearly specified procedure for dealing with students' complaints and grievances, and for dealing with indiscipline, should it arise.

All IH schools submit all language teaching courses and services to regular inspections and advisory visits by IH inspectors.

The school is recognized as Bildungsurlaub by the Federal State of Hamburg (www.weiterbildung-hamburg.de). Based on an agreement of the federal government of 1976, as an employee you have a right to individual further education in Germany. This is a great way for German workers to enjoy learning a new language, therefore increasing their employee value, while also maintaining their job security and normal salary.

In theory, you have a right to 'Bildungsurlaub' after 6 months of working for a company. The duration of the 'Bildungsurlaub' consists of 5 days each year. If you prefer, you can also take 10 days in a period of 2 years. This is especially recommended for language courses. As long as the employer is informed by letter in due time, he can only reject the 'Bildungsurlaub' based on important entrepreneurial reasons. The 'Bildungsurlaub' cannot be compensated for sick leave. During the 'Bildungsurlaub'you will keep your normal salary.
