Cuernavaca - Course Information

Teaching Style

All instruction is based on a communicative approach. It is well known that the best way to acquire a language is through total immersion, and this is exactly what the program will provide. It is designed to provide you with the ideal learning environment so that you will think, write and speak in Spanish naturally within the context of real-life situations.

ALL levels of Spanish are accommodated...from complete beginners to advanced. Textbooks written by the staff are available at nominal costs.

The Courses

1. REGULAR PROGRAM
Six hours daily of classes from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday - Friday. For three of these hours, you will be with a group of only five students or less. The remaining three hours you will be in larger group classes (rarely larger than ten, often smaller) ranging from role-playing and informal conversation groups to advanced lecture/discussion cultural classes.
2. SEMI-PRIVATE PROGRAM
Three private hours daily, plus three hours of group conversation class or lecture/discussion class.
3. MEDICAL SPANISH
Three private hours daily with specialized medical vocabulary, plus three hours of group conversation in general Spanish
4. LEGAL SPANISH

5. EXECUTIVE PROGRAM
Please request a complete descriptive brochure and special registration form. A completely customized program with preferred housing, special instructors, cross cultural training, tailor-made materials. Arrival is on a Sunday.
6. TEEN PROGRAM
Teens and children are taught on a separate campus with age suitable classes. They must travel accompanied by adults studying on the regular campus. The exception for coming accompanied is teensof 16 or 17 years, who are mature and do not need specially organized activities or constant supervision.

Optional classes are offered from 4:30 to 6:00 pm, Monday through Thursday. These may include topics such as a grammar clinic or video viewing and discussion. You must sign up for these additions, but there is no charge. This is yet another opportunity to learn more Spanish!

Students

The student population is made up of great people who want to return from Mexico with more than a souvenir in their suitcases. Some are experienced travelers, while others are making their first foreign trip. Ages range from children to 80-plus. Some have studied Spanish previously, and others have no experience with the language. All professions and interests are represented. There are usually college students, couples, singles, unaccompanied spouses, some parent and adult child combinations...a little of each.

The environment lends itself to quickly making new friends. Some participants have a definite goal in Spanish, and others come just for the exhilaration of learning a new skill or sharpening their minds. We also have students who are studying for academic credit. Participants come from throughout the world, and this creates a stimulating environment for all. The minimum age for independent enrollment is completion of high school. Children ages 5 to 15 may study on a separate campus if they are accompanied by an adult who is also studying. Teens age 16 or 17 may be accepted unaccompanied if they are mature and responsible, with a required curfew.
