Cancun - Location

CANCÚN, MEXICO

Cancún is one of the world's most beautiful vacation destinations, located at the southeastern tip of the Yucatán Peninsula. You will find ultra-modern infrastructure, all comforts and services, an endless menu of attractions, marvelous beaches of fine white sand, and turquoise waters.

Now you can combine a professional Spanish course while enjoying the beach and also learning about Mayan culture. Your first reaction may be...well, it's beautiful there, but no one speaks Spanish. Not so! You can be assured that there is a large, active Mexican downtown, quite separate from the Hotel Zone, and daily Mexican life with all its Spanish sounds will surround you there. The beach area is a peninsula approximately 20 kilometers long with exquisite waters. All the beaches are free to the public. Buses run every fifteen minutes from downtown Cancún to the Hotel Zone, so with a quick ride you can be splashing in the waves.

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

Mexican cooking classes are held once a week, where you can learn to prepare typical Mexican dishes, from handmade tortillas to more sophisticated delicacies. The school also offers Mexican fiestas. Other entertainment options include salsa and merengue dance lessons, water sports, nightlife, restaurants, and other beach activities.

Excursions are offered by the school at extra cost (considerably lower than regular tours) on the weekends. They average about $30. You can go to such places as:

  • Cobá...located in the jungle
  • Tulúm...the famous Mayan archaeological site -- the only Mayan site located on the coast
  • Chichén-Itzá with its spectacular pyramids
  • The colonial cities of Mérida and Valladolid
  • Isla Mujeres, a small island about twelve miles from the coast. It is a very nice place for snorkeling and is twenty minutes by boat from Cancún.
  • Cozumel, a beautiful island with spectacular coral reefs.

In May, there is a renowned International Jazz Festival. In November there is a Caribbean celebration called Festival of the Caribe. All sports are available with monthly fees of about $30 per month for facility memberships. There is a jogging strip along the hotel zone, and all water sports are available at varying prices.
