Cancun - Course Information
The Courses
You will be tested on arrival day and then placed according to your level, if any, of Spanish. Class size is limited to a maximum of six students.
1
. MiniCourse:
15 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 11:00am.
2. Intensive Program:
25 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 1:00pm. Groups no larger than six. A total immersion in the culture, society and customs of Mexico. The system of small groups (three to six students per class) and the special class dynamic help you learn to speak and understand Spanish in a short time. The method is based on the seven levels of the American Association of Teachers of Foreign Languages. This accommodates everyone from complete beginners to superior. Classes will include lectures and interactive classes filled with grammar, oral, written and spoken activities, presented by two different teachers. Emphasis on grammar and vocabulary is continuous throughout every course level. The schedule consists of three hours of structure, one hour in an additional activity (for example vocabulary through games, songs, videos, etc.) and a fifth hour which is a mini-curso" (additional practice of grammar points) or literature classes for advanced students.
3. Intensive Plus Program:
This program is the intensive program of five hours group plus one hour of private each day. The private classes will be held 1:00 to 2:00pm. This is an ideal combination if you want a special boost to make faster progress or if you have specific professional needs.
4. Private Program:
A choice of from two to four hours daily is possible. This is the ideal program if your Spanish needs are very specialized. It is also a perfect program for accomplishing a great deal in as brief a time as possible. If the school is near full capacity these may be offered only for three hours daily, and the time slot will be 5:00 to 8:00pm. We can inform you of private class availability before you make a registration.
Additional Courses: Two courses which can be added to any study program once at the school.
A. Flamenco Dance Class (15 hours for two weeks) - All levels offered, taught by professional, highly qualified flamenco instructors. We request advance notice of dates if you are interested in these classes, as there must be a minimum of 5 participants to offer them.
B. Diving Course - This can be done in 1, 2 or 3 weeks. It involves 2 classroom theory sessions, 2 confined water sessions and 4 open water dives. Scuba equipment is included. Upon completion you will receive certification from the Professional Association of Diving Instructors, recognized worldwide.
Students
Students come from all over the world, with the largest percentages from Europe and the United States. They are of all ages and at all levels of Spanish. Some have the goal of developing their Spanish for professional purposes, and many come just for the sheer enjoyment of learning another language. Then there are always students who want to come home from a vacation with something in their heads, rather than just a souvenir in their suitcases.
All ages are accommodated, but students must be at least 18 to join the group classes. Children under that age who are accompanied by their parents must study in private classes, and they will receive a discount of 20% on classes and homestay.
