AMAUTA - Testimonials

Buenos Aires, Amauta Testimonials

I was planning to live and study in Buenos Aires for a semester abroad that started in March and decided to study at Amauta for the month of February 2010 to get a head start on my Spanish. Amauta really exceeded my expectations for a language school and I would definitely recommend it! From the moment I arrived, all the staff and teachers were extremely welcoming and outgoing. I really liked their teaching style - with very small classes - no more than 5 students per class, with a large emphasis on conversational skills. All the teachers were young which made it more fun to learn and practice everyday conversation and lunfardo. They would also constantly give us recommendations to help us explore the city - they would tell us the best museums to go to, restaurants, shopping and more. Though conversational skills were the main goal, tons of vocabulary and grammatical skills were integrated into each lesson as well.
The teachers varied the class styles as well - with role-play, debates, and one day we went out to a verdulería to practice our new vocabulary on the street. It was so hard to believe, but after 3 weeks I already could communicate so much better with my wonderful host family and chat with locals who I met on the street! I also took several tango lessons during the first two weeks - though learning tango was pretty difficult, I really enjoyed learning the steps! Overall, my time at Amauta was invaluable - I met some fantastic students from around the world, settled into the relaxed-pace of Buenos Aires life and my practically non-existent Spanish improved drastically within the span of 4 weeks!

I would rate this school with an "A".  They gave my group everything I wanted and even more. - Paul Bases, Professor, New Ulm MN

Amauta of Buenos Aires is excellent! From the moment that I walked into Amauta to the last good-bye I felt that I was welcomed and appreciated at the school. There was a general feeling that they were there to help us in whatever we needed. It was great that their office doors were always opened and no matter what they were doing or with whom they were speaking, they would always invite me in if I needed to talk with them.
A definite strength of the school is classes with well planned curricula and teachers who are prepared and trained... The two teachers that I had (Luis and Geraldine) were great. They brought in outside resources (CD player, videos from the web, newspaper articles, etc.) and exhibited an honest interest in our conversations and classes.
The school atmosphere was relaxed, but professional. There are 5 or 6 bulletin boards with advice on city tours, museums, theatres, etc. Some of the teachers participated in the afternoon activities which impressed the students and showed that they cared about what was going on outside of their classes. The first activity of the week is always an introduction to mate, the famous Argentine drink. Along with the mate, a card game is taught and played. The rest of the week is filled with city tours, Argentine movie presentation, theatrical acting, telling of Buenos Aires urban legends, and of course, tango dancing lessons. The administration encourages the students to participate in the activities but always seemed to understand if some of the students opted out of the activities. -
