AMAUTA. - Course Information
Teaching Style
AMAUTA Spanish school offers you customized tutoring at the level and pace especially suited to your personal goals. AMAUTA is known for its interactive, communicative and personal teaching methods that will help you to start speaking Spanish quickly. All standard Spanish courses include four hours of private or group instruction per day. Additional hours can be arranged.
The Courses
Successfully implementing the interactive method depends entirely on the personal attention the Spanish teachers are able to give students. Therefore, our groups are small and all courses are (super) intensive. The make-up of the group is determined according to the students’ abilities; the first day of the course begins with an oral and written placement test (see: Placement Test).
LEVELS
We work with four levels, fixing the goals for each based on our experience and in accordance with the curriculum of the Instituto Cervantes and the Council of Europe. (*Common European Framework of References). Complete beginners must start on specific start dates (please see below). If you are taking private lessons you may start on any Monday.
LESSON MATERIALS
We work with our own Latin America-oriented text books, which form the basis of the course, in combination with other materials (e.g. local newspapers, Latinamerican songs, Latinamerican literature, cassettes, videos, Spanish grammar exercises etc.) making use of overhead projectors, videos, and other audio-visual materials. However, our materials have only a support function. Students may visit typical locations (for example the market, a school or a hospital) during class, and a large part of the study material are practical activities and exercises, which will aid students to understand and speak Spanish, almost without noticing!
CLASS TIMES
Classes take place from Monday to Friday, except for official holidays which are not recoverable (instead, an alternative, cultural activity is offered). All classes are 105 minutes in duration and programmed between the hours of 9:00 am and 18:00 pm.
Classes take place in a relaxed and stimulating atmosphere, maximizing a student's ability to communicate in Spanish. Teachers rotate in order to give students the maximum exposure to the varieties of spoken Spanish.
TEACHERS
All AMAUTA teachers are native speakers and professionals who are committed to giving students the richest possible experience of Argentinean culture and customs. They have been chosen because of their high quality teaching skills, their enthusiasm and their knowledge of Buenos Aires and Argentina. Coming from different countries in Latin America, they all participated in the AMAUTA teachers' training and attend education workshops during their employment.
Additional Tango Program!
Students may choose any of our programs PLUS tango. This includes ten tango classes per week, which includes a weekend outing to milongas (clubs where tango is danced by Argentinians).
Added Tango Program: Add an additional fee per week to the cost of any language program in Buenos Aires.
Cultural Programs
There are a number of cultural programs students can take in the afternoon.
If you choose the music option, our teachers will enlighten you with the traditional Argentine music. The songs, lyrics and local instruments, such as el Arpa, el Acordean, la Armonica, el Bombo, la Quena y el Bandoneon will make you an expert on the beautiful music you hear calling out to you in the streets. In addition, learn about the influence of European music on the indigenous culture and how Argentine music came to be so well known as it is today.
If you choose the Argentine cooking option, you will not only learn how to prepare the most famous Argentine meat dishes (asados), as well as the delicious empanadas, but you will also learn about the Italian influences on the Argentine cooking as well as more background on the local ingredients.
SPANISH & POLO
We offer four hours of Spanish classes and then the rest of the day is dedicated to learning to play polo. Polo is an extremely fun and highly addictive sport and during a typical afternoon, we play 3 or 4 “chuckers” of 10-15 minutes each in mixed teams. Our instructors work closely with you to teach or help improve your
techniques and ensure your enjoyment so that you get the most out of your stay.
Beginners are more than welcome and indeed actively encouraged to try their hand at this exciting game. Depending on the client's level, the classes may be individual or in a small group. There are also classes for children. There is a minimum of four students required.
Students
Students at all levels of Spanish come from many parts of the world, creating a stimulating atmosphere for all. There are students of all ages and levels. Minimum age for independent study is 17 or completion of high school. Teens from 12 - 16 can study if they are accompanied by a family membe (or during set children's course start dates which occur during the summer months), but private classes are required. Most participants come unaccompanied, couples and families can be accommodated.
