Academia de Espanol - Location
QUITO, ECUADOR
At an altitude of 9,350 feet, this large city has a population of 1.5 million and is in a beautiful valley. From the city it is possible to see the Avenue of the Volcanoes, formed by the majestic snow caps of the Andes mountains. Night life is very active, with salsa clubs, casinos and fine restaurants. From Quito you can easily explore places such as the indigenous market in Otavalo, one of the largest on the continent. Another side trip might be to hot springs gurgling from the base of a nearby volcano. Beaches are close, and the countryside is beautiful. The daytime year round temperature rarely varies from the upper 60’s to the low 70’s, although nights can be crisply cold.
AMAZON RIVER BASIN LOCATION
There is a one week program held in a location on the Napo River, a tributary of the Amazon River. It is an amazing opportunity to experience the wonders of a tropical rain forest and learn about its resources, all the while continuing your Spanish study.
ACTIVITIES
You receive a cultural program at no additional cost. There are optional classes for group discussion every Monday and Friday afternoon from 2:00 to 3:30. Every Wednesday and Thursday from 5:00 to 6:00 there are dance lessons (salsa, merengue, cumbia, etc.). Each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday there are optional cultural activities (you pay the cost of transportation and admission). These include trips to museums, films, local fiestas, visits to indigenous markets, mountain hikes and other interesting events. This allows you full opportunity to explore the many wonders of Ecuador. When the activities occur at the school, you pay no additional cost.
